BioVermiculite™ FAQ

BioVermiculite™ is an engineered biocarbon that replaces mined vermiculite in potting and soil blends. It improves aeration, water retention, and microbe support—helping plants root faster and grow stronger.
Compared with mined vermiculite or perlite, BioVermiculite™ delivers both air-holding and moisture-holding capacity, supports beneficial soil biology, and is carbon-negative, made from responsibly managed forestry residues.
Perfect for home gardens, container plants, raised beds, seed propagation, seed toppers, transplants, and cuttings. It can also be used as a sustainable substitute for perlite and peat moss in many blends.
  • Home Garden: Spread 2 cubic yards per 1000 sq. ft., tilled 6 inches into soil. Prepare 2–3 weeks before planting.
  • Transplants: Dig hole 1.5–2× wider than root ball. Mix soil with BioVermiculite™.
    – Annual vegetables: 1 cup per plant
    – Large crops (tomato, peppers): 1–1½ cups per plant
    – Woody perennials/trees: ½–1 gallon per plant
  • Containers:
    – 1-gallon pot: ½–1 cup
    – 3-gallon pot: 5–10 cups
    – 5-gallon pot: 0.6–1.25 gallons
    – 10-gallon pot: 1.25–2.5 gallons
    – 20-gallon pot: 2.5–5 gallons
  • Raised Beds: Spread ½–1 inch layer on top and mix/till into top 6 inches. Prepare 2–3 weeks before planting.
